![]() While this started out as a video focused on Sealed, a lot of the. It doesn't help that it also was on the same block of probably the best limited format of all time, which made Avacyn's problems even more apparent. 69 views 1 year ago UNITED STATES This Magic: The Gathering Arena Video will help draft better in Strixhaven Sealed. It also was a very hard to cost, a lot of miracles were unplayable at full cost and severely undercosted at topdeck mode, so it led to awkward mulligan decisions. I still have PTSD from ] stealing games completely out of nowhere. This Magic: The Gathering Arena Video will help draft better in Strixhaven Limited Drafts, Player Drafts, or Quick. ![]() Topdecks are already exciting to play, you don't need incentive from a mechanic for it to be better. Being Miracle'd by an opponent is one of the worst feelings you can face in a limited format ever. Great idea! Except that you don't ever want to be on the receiving of it. Wizards heard people like topdecks, so why not make a full mechanic out of it. Speaking of mechanics, here comes Miracle. All that for a payoff that not only was easy to deal with but also weaker than those of soulbond. Basically to play black you have to play mono black, because the color had no synergy with any other. Black's mechanic was the "lonely" mechanic, which gave bonus if you control only one creature on the board. Soulbond was one of the main mechanics of the set, which encouraged playing creatures to team with. ![]() Other colors had a really hard time dealing with this, which turned Flying basically Shadow/Horsemanship/Unblockable. Since the set was the angel's set, there was a lot of fliers, mostly at white and blue (obviously). Think ], that card alone puts 12 power on the table, 4 of them hasty. There were so many, and since the removal was awful, you hardly had any response to those bombs. But then you fall into another of the set's problems, which were the bombs. They were either situational or traded down, so you were incentivized to just not play it and develop your board. Ixalan was bad, but Avacyn is on another level.Īs I mentioned, the first problem was that removal was awful. I also did a bunch of Eldraine drafts whenever they came up and really enjoyed them, but probably not enough to place them on this list This is my semi-n00b ranking of how good the draft environments have been:ġ: Kamigawa (the amount of really excellent, top-tier enjoyable games I had here was amazing)Ģ: Strixhaven (really enjoyed how you could make a top-tier deck by picking mostly uncommonsģ: Kaldheim (this one sort of felt like it degenerated into everyone drafting five color piles by the end, but was pretty great in the early-to-mid days)Ĥ: Ikoria (really enjoyed this one, but probably didn't get quite enough drafts in to get a real feel for it)Ĩ: New Capenna (kind of broken in color balance, but fun in that you can find some pretty good decks in the mix)ĩ: Forgotten Realms (kind of broken in color balance, but less fun in the decks you made)ġ0: Crimson Vow (did you get a bomb? If yes, you win! If no, you don't!) ![]()
